The United Nations has declared 2008 to be the International Year of Planet Earth. The BFF exhibition “BRAVE NEW WORLD” will focus on this theme and will present images of our earth in selected contributions by association members. In order to examine how real and/or artificial our world actually is, artists have utilized a whole range of photography and image processing technologies, all the way up to generating completely artificial images. Photography is capable of disguising, interpreting or simulating reality. This is where the exhibition title stems from, referring to Aldous Huxley’s novel “BRAVE NEW WORLD” from 1932. For Aristotle, art both perfects and imitates nature. Today, photography operates at this interface between the principle of production and the resulting images of “nature.” The exhibition asks the viewer to take an intensive, close look at the relationship between the real and the hyper-real.
Exhibition concept: Barbara Burg, Tania Reinicke. Submitted works curated by: Prof. F. C. Gundlach, Werner Lippert, Dr. Christoph Schaden. An exhibition by the Association of Freelance Photo Designers (BFF).
