Canon Profifoto Promotional Award for young photographers
Once again in 2008, the Visual Gallery will be presenting the winning projects from the competition for the Canon Profifoto Promotional Award for young photographers. The projects represent a broad range of creative accomplishments. For example, Thiemo Kloss, a student from Berlin, has composed computer-generated mass scenarios representing behavioral patterns that are prevalent in our society. His images reveal isolation, exclusion, uniformity, and the degree to which modern human beings have adapted themselves to a world that is controlled by computers. Two other examples indicate the breadth of this exhibition, which comprises 20 projects in all. Christine Steiner, a student from Dortmund, has deliberately chosen a non-documentary style for her photo series “On the Beach.” In this series, she uses the medium of photography to visualize images of her subjectively perceived reality. Another photographer, Michael Kunze, constructs alternatives to our subjective reality by using two-dimensional images to turn our learned perceptions of space upside down.

Organised in cooperation with Canon CPS and ProfiFoto and with Corbis and Lumas
