For three years, Bettina Flitner traveled the length and breadth of Europe on the trail of women who have helped to shape the face of the continent. Her subjects range from an anti-Mafia campaigner in Palermo and a painter in Vienna to a female chess grandmaster in Budapest and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin . In 2004 this series of portraits was published as a book in Germany , titled Frauen mit Visionen (Knesebeck, reissued in 2006), and in France ( Editions de la Martinière). Since then, Flitner has been continually adding to the project. The exhibition is now touring Europe, from Madrid to Tampere.
